Royal Canadian Air ForceDescription:Cold weather testing of clothing and equipment on Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen. Military personnel were subjected to a variety of field tests in dry cold trials in Northern Saskatchewan (near Prince Albert), Ontario, Québec and wet cold trials in Newfoundland. Trials included simulated winter warfare in varied terrain and climate. Some personnel wore experimental clothing, undergarments, footgear, head gear and hand gear, and others wore the standard issued outfits. Scientists and observers compared both for effectiveness and durability. Gear such as sleeping bags and tents, and equipment such as toboggans, snowshoes and skis, were also tested by personnel. Scientifically prepared questionnaires were answered by each person testing the article. Accumulated field data determined how each article had performed. Finally, a cold weather trials report with findings and recommendations was submitted. <47mn 10s>Language:EnglishNotes: -
