CLC Staff Representative, Jim Robertson, reviews labour events of the past year. He says that the National Mine Mill office has attempted to frustrate the wishes of Local 598 at every opportunity. USWA Publicity Director, Murray Cotterell, says that Mine Mill has become in recent years little more than a front for the Communist Party and that Mine Mill has been spending a fortune on publicity just to oppose a government vote. He also says that it's "hard enough to bargain with the corporation without carrying Nicky Kruschev and a hundred megaton bomb on your shoulders". He accuses Mine Mill of character assassination and denounces the Thompson agreement as a sellout.~Robertson addresses the reluctance of Mine Mill old timers to support Steel and reminds them that in 1943 they were asked to join, not Mine Mill but the CIO. He reveals that USWA publicity will concentrate on three issues, the first that Mine Mill is no longer controlled by its members; that a vote for Mine Mill is a vote for trusteeship; and that Mine Mill is isolated and a vote for Steel is a vote for unity. Robertson then wishes a Happy New Year on behalf of the USWA and the Canadian Labour Congress. <14mn>
