A CTV News report on Canadian Unity. Different aspects and views are expressed by the Guimond family, a French Canadian family, interviewed by André Payette on Montreal television station, the Potter family, an English Canadian family, interviewed by Bruce Philips on Vancouver's T.V. station, the Akhtar family, a Pakistani family, interviewed by Peter Truman on Toronto's T.V. station and finally, also interviewed by Peter Truman, Betty Williams, Nobel Prize Winner who led a peace movement in Ireland during the war. Also, sequence on an interview with Gérald Godin, who was one of the many victims of false arrest by the Montreal police force during the October 1970 events and later, by these events, was triggered to party politics and became an active member of the Parti québécois. Shown are sequences on on the October crisis. Godin brings up the issue of the War Measures' Act. Then, Tom Gould interviews Dr. Camille Laurin who gives his conception of cultural development for Quebec and explains the need for its sovereignty. Bruce Philips interviews Jean-Luc Pépin who talks of decentralization as one solution for Canadian Unity. Shown are sequences on Pépin's hometown, Drummondville, his first meeting with Pierre Elliott Trudeau in Europe and Pépin in Halifax, involved in the Task Force on Canadian Unity.~Then, following a film presented on the war in Ireland, Peter Truman interviews Betty Williams who talks about the hatred that was planted in the young people's heart in Ireland, and her advice to Canadians, to learn from the disaster in Ireland. Throughout this report, the families and B. Williams give their opinions as they listen to each other and the other presentations included in this program. <50mn>
