The news stories are as follows: warning to motorists and pedestrians about freezing rain; walls of fire-damaged department store in Windsor, Ontario collapse on three men; riots in Durban, South Africa; Chiang Kai-shek asks President Truman for help in fighting the Communist Chinese; North Star transport plane has made first non-stop coast to coast flight in Canadian history, 1500 Montreal teachers threaten to strike for higher pay; the Bureau of Statistics reports Canada had a favourable trade balance with the U.S. in November; Canadian finance minister Douglas Abbott gave a speech in New York on Canada's favourable economic prospects due to recent discoveries of raw materials such as iron and oil; Toronto restaurant owners have to pay higher license fees; the federal agriculture minister, J. G. Gardiner, said American markets should not be open to Canadian farm products; there is speculation that the nationalist Chinese government will fall to the Communist forces; Egypt and Israel are negotiating with United Nations mediator Dr. Ralph Bunche over control of Palestine; criticism in Britain of the anti-Israel foreign policy of Ernest Bevin; more on the Durban riots; resingation of the Premier of Greece.
