This film shows the activities of the Young Women's Christian Association in Tokyo, Japan in the wake of the great Kanto Earthquake of September 1st 1923. The Y.W.C.A. building is shown being destroyed by fire and crumbling; other shots show the general devastation left behind by the earthquake. An intertitle notes the relief work done by the Y.W.C.A., including a dress sale at Tsukishima. Members also help to distibute relief sent from Hawaii; this is shown in still shots. Nine months after the earthquake, in May 1924, the temporary building of the Y.W.C.A. in Tokyo is completed; women are shown entering the building and in classrooms. One shot shows women in a Domestic Science and Foreign Cooking class. Intertitles explain the division of classes at the Y.W.C.A. which includes the Students Department (English, Bible Study and Music), Domestic Science (Cooking, Sewing and Flower Arrangement) and the Commercial Department (Business English, Typewriting and Shorthand). Apart from these departments, members may join special clubs. The film procedes to show a selection of scenes from the Y.W.C.A. including it's main office, an English class, flower arrangement, sewing classes, typewriting, music and gymnastics. Also shown are some of the club activities and games, board and staff meetings and an Evening Chapel service. The final shots show the Y.W.C.A. residence both inside and outside. The last intertitle appeals to the audience: "We hope that you all will help the work of the Y.W.C.A." <11mn 4s>
