C. The writer visited the area of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, and the Indian missions at Baie Miami, Mackinaw and L'Arbre-Croche. He baptized 14 natives at Mackinaw and 21 at L'Arbre-Croche, where he also converted three adults. He mentions the missionaries Bellamy (who recently left for China [recte Tonkin]), [F.]-V. Badin (at Prairie-du-Chien), Richard (not appointed bp. of Detroit), Herman (who left for Martinique after six months with Richard), the Indian chief Le Papouas [Oiseau Noir] of L'Arbre-Croche, and Fauvel (still not a priest), who took one Indian [Teoragaron Ano8ara] to France and Rome two years before [in 1826], and is now in Green Bay where he hopes to build a church.

The writer mentions that in Mackinaw the efforts of the Presbyterians (especially a group from New York) in the field of education are impressive, that in L'Arbre-Croche religious instruction is dispensed by an Indian who was educated in Montréal, and that the local natives sing hymns that have been translated into their language. If in France it is possible to print a cathechism and prayer books in the Ottawa language, he would sent the ms forthwith. PF S. Bs: folio 375v-376r.
