ALS. At the end of June [1826], the writer left Baltimore and went to Canada, an immense region close to his province, to study the means of improving the state of religion [at home?]. As for Detroit, the candidate for the new bishopric is Richard, c.58 [recte 60], originally from the diocese of Angers, who studied at Séminaire de Saint-Sulpice, left France for America [in 1792] during the French Revolution, was fined [on 12 October 1821] for excommunicating a bigamous [i.e., divorced] merchant [Labadie] upon the orders of the bp. of Bardstown [Flaget]. [The balance of this item deals with the United States].
