M entitled "Second Mémoire sur L'affaire de Montréal dans le bas Canada". The writer summarizes his first M [see SOCG 307] and makes reference to his own letter to the bp. of Québec [Plessis] of 10 August 1823, and to Plessis's letter of 19 January 1824, in which he stated his intention to keep the properties of the Montréal Seminary. The inopportune appointment of the bp. of Telmissus [Lartigue], for Montréal's proximity to Québec (26 hours) and the existence of two other bp.s [Plessis, Panet], caused a schism that could have been avoided had the bp. of Telmissus followed the example of Dubourg, who in similar conditions left New Orleans for St. Louis.

The case of a Scottish priest who for 15 years was refused admission to the Montréal Seminary introduces the principal question, i.e., whether a brief of PF authorized Plessis to refuse admission to the Seminary to any priests, and to withdraw from the Seminary priests for his own use. The abp. of Baltimore [Maréchal] and the bp.s of Boston [Lefèbvre de Cheverus], Bardstown [Flaget], Rhesaina [A. McDonell], and Saldes [Panet] are also mentioned. Bs: folio 746v, 747v, 753v, 755rv.
