ALS. Following PF Secretary Caprano's promise, made during the writer's visit to Rome four years before [in the spring of 1825], to provide two studentships in Collegio Urbano, he now sends two youngsters (MacMillan, 16, and A. MacDonell [1815-39?], 14) that he hopes will be ordained in due time. They are to leave home during the coming month for New York, where they will catch the first ship going to Genoa or Leghorn. The writer thanks the Pope [Leo XII] for the money he just received, but warns that the growing number of Irish immigrants would require more spiritual assistance that he can provide with his 14 priests, four of whom were locally raised and recently ordained. Two more are soon to be ordained, and three more have received minor orders.
