C. Since holidays celebrating patron saints had become the occasion for debauchery, especially in the countryside and during the summer, Hubert's mandement of 15 April 1791 [see Calendar 1622-1799, III 688, VI 214] had reduced their importance. The Holy See, however, refused to confirm the validity of the mandement. The writer suggests that said holidays be celebrated on the same day all over the diocese, in order to prevent parishioners from leaving their own parish of residence and join forces with others. PF notes (forwarded to [Carpegna, Secretary], the Sacred Congregation of the Rites on 5 [recte 4] February 1808 [see Lettere 024].
