C. The writer acknowledges the addressee's letter [of 15 October 1819; see Acta 048], with the good news of the state of religion in the island [Newfoundland]. However, a fuller report (number of Catholic inhabitants, their conditions and attitudes; names and rank of missionaries; climate, towns and extensions of lands; abuses and needs) is urged. As for the Augustinian [T.] Browne, that the provincial of Ireland wants to recall, [in his letter of 24 February 1820; see C 091] the vicar general [Morelli] agreed to keep him in Newfoundland after the request of PF [contained in its letters of 29 January and 19 February 1820; see Lettere 090 100]. The addresse is informed that Anticosti and the Labrador coast were placed under his jurisdiction [at the audience of 30 January 1820; see Varia 113-115], as requested by the abp. of Québec, [Plessis, on 23 November 1814; see SOCG 061].

As requested, he is also granted the same reduction of holidays approved for the diocese of Canada [recte of Québec].
