AM. According to Plessis, bp. of Canatha, coadjutor of the bp. of Québec [Denaut], in his diocese there is a priest who works full time to collect the faithful's alms and to deal with the merchants who forward them to the most distant regions (the diocese is immense), and even to the United Provinces of America and to England for the assistance of indigent priests. According to Benedict XIV, alms of this kind must be kept by the priest who celebrates the mass. The petitioner asks that the priest responsible for collecting them be allowed to keep one English soldo [shilling?], that is, almost two Roman baiocchi This would allow this function to be performed by one, not two priests.
