Excerpts. The writer acknowledges the addressee's letter of 15 [recte 14?] April [1826; see Lettere 231]. He is in favour of the erection of the bishopric of New Brunswick, with jurisdiction over Prince Edward Island and Iles-de-la-Madeleine, of the appointment of [A.B.] MacEachern, of selecting Charlottetown as the see of the new bishopric (re Plessis's letter to Litta of 1 [recte 6] December 1817 [see SOCG 090]), of the immediate appointment of a coadjutor. Priests will continue to be rare in the region, due to the lack of seminars and the growing needs of Irish immigration, as most of the current 18 priests will return home [to Lower Canada] after the separation [from the archbishopric of Québec]. Furthermore, the revenues of the bp. of Rhosus [MacEachern] are not known, although the bp.s of the United States live on the charity. B: fol. 110rv.
