LS. The writers, informed that the addressee is about to leave for Rome and that a separate bishopric of Detroit, in the Michigan territory, is to be erected, recommend Richard for the position. Richard, a Frenchman, for more than 25 years [recte since 1798] a priest in the area, has also "a highly respectable and fluency in the english language". "As the English or American population, is also encreasing", Richard's successor must be an American who speaks English and French.
