C of a letter, followed by its translation into French. The writer acknowledges the addresse's letter of 31 [?August 1819], with the enclosed M re the control of the Catholic inhabitants of British North America, meant to secure the assistance of competent persons to superintend those parts of the continent that are too distant from Québec. Since the addressee stated that the persons to be approved are to depend on the bp. of Québec, the Prince Regent [later George IV] approves the proposed arrangement, by which Lartigue is to reside in Montréal and Provencher in Hudson Bay.
