Excerpts from a letter. The writer acknowledges Litta's letter [of 21 December 1816; see Lettere 044], and the addressee's letter of 9 February [1817], informing that the bp. of Québec [Plessis]'s letter had not reached Rome. The bp.'s letter must be dated after 14 October [1816], because he mentioned it in a letter to the writer [of 14 and 20 October 1816; see SOCG 267] in which he asked to be immediately informed on the arrival of the briefs [Plessis's letter to Litta is dated 15 October 1816]. While they wait for the bp.'s letter, the cdl.s [of PF] could grant faculties to the writer. If, however, the bp.'s letter has gone astray, the writer will not be able to leave Halifax this year [and go to Québec].

He will gather information on the dispute between the abp. of Baltimore [Maréchal], Gallagher and [R.] Browne, possibly on his way to Québec via the United States. PF S [of SOCG 265 267]. B: fol. 63r.
