PM. Ponenza prepared for the CG of 19 May 1817, in 14 articles, subdivided into 74 paragraphs. Paragraph 74 contains 20 queries to be answered by PF. They are followed by a Y(s1SZSommarioY(s0SZ. Article 10 deals with Halifax. According to the writer, the decree of [the CG of] 11 December 1815 [see Acta 023-025] can now be implemented and E. Burke be appointed vicar apostolic in Nova Scotia. Plessis, bp. of Québec, is known to approve of the appointment. The question of Burke's jurisdiction over Bermuda is discussed in detail, and the island described. Article 11 deals with the British West and East Indies [only the West Indies, however, are dealt with]. Cape Breton [Island] and Ile Saint- Jean are said to be under the jurisdiction of the bp. of Québec. R: Burke is to be appointed vicar apostolic in Nova Scotia, but the abp. of Baltimore [Neale] is to be written to re Burke's jurisdiction over Bermuda. Signed by Litta.
