General note:

The Battle of Seven Oaks (Seven Oaks Massacre, Battle of Frog Plain, la Grenouillière) was a violent incident on June 19, 1816 at Seven Oaks in the Red River Settlement. The incident led to the 1821 merger of the two fur-trading rivals - the North West Company (NW Co.) and the Hudson's Bay Company. The Métis who fought for the NW Co., called it "the Victory of Frog Plain" (la Victoire de la Grenouillière).
