C. The writer doubts the legitimacy of the vows of the three women [Macé, Maillet, Moreau de Brésoles], who arrived in Canada in 1661 [recte 1659]. Their rules have been authored by one [Le Royer de] La Dauversière, who has established their institute [Religieuses Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph] in La Flèche and other French towns. In the meantime, a Sulpician from Paris [Thubières de Levy de Queylus] had handed the writer a papal brief dated 8 Feb. [recte Jan.] 1666, in which the new order is allegedly approved. The writer believes the said brief to be false.
