LS. The writer acknowledges the addressee's letter of 27 [Sep. 1783; see Lettere 281]. He will inform the Comte de Vergennes [Gravier] and continue his negotiations with Franklin re the missions to be established in the United States. He will be glad to meet Thayer, born in Boston [in 1758], with his letter of credentials from PF [see Lettere 281]; if Thayer still intends to go to his country as missionary, and there are no objections on Franklin's part, he will use the faculties granted by the Pope [Pius VI] and forwarded by the addressee. PF S, notes. Re PF answer of 22 Nov. 1783. [The balance of this item deals with Sweden]. B: 338r.
