C. The writer has received all powers that had been requested from the Holy See, some of which have been communicated to the bp. of Almyra, his coadjutor [J.-F. Hubert]; the latter will send a M on Acadia [see C 195]. As from the Treaty [of Paris-Versailles] of [3 Sep.] 1783, all lands south 45°[north] latitude were ceded to the Anglo-Americans; since Tamarois and Illinois were included, no missionaries were sent there since. It seems that [Huet de] La Valinière and [Paul de] Saint-Pierre have been sent to the Illinois region by the prefect ap. of New England [recte superior of the missions in the United States, Carroll], and the extension of their powers is not known.
