LS. The writer acknowledges the letter of PF of 9 July [1763; see Lettere 159]. As to the state of religion in Canada and in the French colonies, he agrees with Dosquet that time will tell what to do. La Corne, dean of the chapter of Québec, has been in London to negotiate the appointment of a new bp. elected by the chapter. La Corne is currently in Paris, but the writer does not know whether his project has succeeded. If a bp. is not allowed, then a vic. ap. must be appointed. Rumours exist in Paris that regulars will be forbidden to go to the colonies, and that the colonies will be left to secular priests. PF notes. Re PF answer of 1 Oct. [recte 27 Sep.] 1763.
