The Provincial Definitor and Guardian of the Convent of Nemours, Macaire de Paris, of the Third Order [Regular] of St. Francis, has petitioned [petition undated, but 1647; see SOCG 356] PF for a mission to be established in those territories that the King of France [Louis XIII] granted to Dormeilles [Le Charon] "in some parts of America and adjacent islands." The addressee is requested to enquire whether other missionaries are in those territories, their extension, where new missions could be established without hampering the existing ones, and about the quality of the petitioner and his companions and their number.
