ALS. A very detailed report on Louisiana. Louisiana is inhabited by people of French origin, but is now divided into two portions (English, Spanish). There are two towns, Nouvelle-Orléans (10,000 Catholics) and Mobile (2,000 Catholics). There are also more than 12 villages: Balise (500 Catholics), Saint-Léon (1,200),, Saint-Jean (1,000), of the Germans [Les Allemans] (3,000), Pointe-Coupée (1,500), of the Attakapas (800), of the Natchez [Fort-Rosalie] (400), of the Natchitoches (1,800), of the Akenzas (800), three villages in the Illinois territory (3,000). The important nation of the converted Apalachees (5,000) must be added to the above list. The Catholics of Louisiana are served by nine missionaries only [see Remarks].
