LS. The abp. of Rouen [Harlay de Champvallon] and the bp. of Saint-Malo [Ville-Montée] try to jeopardize the authority of PF over New France and the French islands of America by sending their own missionaries. This the writer has already stated in his letter of 26 Apr. [1669]. Gazil [de La Bernardère] is said to be a good choice for a prefect. PF notes [later deleted in full] (following the decision of the CG[/36] of 2 Apr. [1669; see Acta 135], the N. in France [Bargellini] was written to [see Lettere 95]; he proposed Gazil [de La Bernardière] for prefect, intending

to supervise personally the appointment of missionaries; now a new letter [of 7 or 14 June 1669; see SOCG 378-379] of the N. has been received, and will be read in full). Bs: 76v-77r.
