CG/5. Rel.: P.L. Carafa [1677-1755]. The Pope [Innocent XII] forwards a petition [of the Séminaire des Missions-Etrangères, undated, but 1722; see SOCG 477]. As only one missionary [Davion], old and infirm, is currently in Canada [recte Louisiana], the petitioners want to send the 30-year-old Despuyols, of the diocese of Bayonne, praised by Maigrot in his letter of credentials [of 29 Mar. 1722; see SOCG 478]; Despuyols, however, is still a layman, and needs proper dispensations; as his bp. [of Bayonne, Druillet] is one of the Appellants, the Séminaire requests that dimissorials be not required for him; furthermore, the bp. of Québec [La Croix de Saint-Vallier] is very far from the said mission.
