Ross Eaman interviews Marianne Morrow, daughter of Colonel Keith Rogers, founder of CFCY Charlottetown. Morrow discusses: her early interest in wireless and radio; CFCY, the family's station in Charlottetown, a CBC affiliate; CFCY's first full network broadcast; studio in family's living room; her father; her sister's career on CFCY's shows for children and later on CBC Sackville women's broadcasts; Morrow's early radio career on children's shows; commercials on CFCY; effects of the Depression; plays done by amateur actors; her education at Mount Allison in the late 1930s; her brother, a musician; her return from Mount Allison and resumption of kids' shows; Christmas shows; receiving about 10 000 letters after the first Christmas show; special letters; CFCY's coverage; women's programs; her pay; government regulations and other problems; original CFCY licence application written to be suitable for TV; profitability and public service in private broadcasting; early commercials; future husband worked as CFCY announcer; after war husband joined CBC; she was hired by CBC to replace writer for the soap THE GILLINS; problems of script-writing; pay of writers; hearing THE GILLINS ten years after she stopped writing it; and how the CBC disapproved of hiring family of employees so she left after 6 or 8 months. <57mn>
