General note:

Lac La Biche (Alberta) began as a North West Company fur trading post in 1798-99. Portage la Biche was a major link in the western fur trade route to the Pacific and provided the connections between the river routes of the Saskatchewan, Athabasca and Beaver Rivers with the overland trails used by Red River carts.
Lac La Biche was the home to Métis displaced after the 1869-70 uprising in the Red River Colony or those who left Saskatchewan after the North-West Rebellion (or North-West Resistance).
The Hudson's Bay Post at Lac La Biche was looted on April 26, 1885 during the North-West Rebellion (or North-West Resistance) by members of Big Bear's (Mistahimaskwa's) band.
