Round political button. In black letters at lower centre, "Sir Oliver Mowat K.C.M.G." In centre is a black ink image of Mowat. Artwork image of Mowat from last election of 1896 when he was appointed to Senate.

Sir Oliver Mowat, was a lawyer and politician, and 3rd premier of Ontario from 1872-1896. Mowat was brought up a Conservative, but opted for the Reform Party, becoming a prominent Reform leader in the province. He served as provincial secretary, and was postmaster general. He was an active participant in the Quebec Conference, and a father of Confederation. He held the appointment of chancellor of Ontario from 1864 to 1872, then served as premier and attorney general until 1896 when he was appointed to the Senate and then federal minister of justice. Knighted in 1892, he left Ottawa in 1897 to become lieutenant-governor of Ontario. Under Mowat's leadership, Ontario advanced economically, socially and politically.
