Amateur film documenting: the Kivallirmiut (also known as Caribou Inuit) at Arviat (formerly known as Eskimo Point) mission located in the Kivalliq region (formerly known as Keewatin region of the Northwest Territories); the daily routine of the Inuit ( Eskimo) community with kids playing and meal preparation in tent camp; mother and child; tribal tatoos and clothing; trips to outlying encampments by missionaries; Arctic flora and birds; the fall migration to caribou country; a hunting and fishing expedition in -10 degrees weather; missionaries preparing habitation for the winter; Inuit (eskimos) moving into igloos; a sun dog forecasting a drift; missionary accompanied by Joseph Varley, Inuit catechist from Tavanne, making January visits at -50 degrees, arrives in storm; the mission church at Tavanne; Inuit (eskimo) daily life showing building an igloo, dogsled travel, and fishing through the ice; an igloo collapsing in the spring; the trip back to the coast for the summer; setting up tents; a children's Christmas party in May; children playing in the remaining snow; women demonstrating how to prepare hair sticks and other fashions; a church service (black and white footage); visits to neighbouring camps by dogsled and canoe; the midnight sun; a seal hunt with the seal being stalked, shot and prepared; the sea ice breaking up; a Junkers seaplane at anchor; elder Oolibuck; and an Episcopal visit. 1. Donald Benjamin Marsh served as an Anglican missionary at Arviat (formerly known as Eskimo Point) between 1926 and 1944. He became the second Bishop of the Arctic in 1950. An amateur photographer, he recorded numerous activities of the Padlimiut.~2. Bishop Marsh died 5 February 1973. Winifred Florence (Petchey) Marsh died 23 July 1995.~3. Amateur film made of actuality footage shot by D. Marsh. The story he tells has "original character", thus identifying his film as an amateur film. Winifred Petchey Marsh's art is featured as background for some title and intertitle cards. The copyright term is: Life (1973) + 50 years = 2023. Under copyright until 31 December 2023.~4. Bishop Marsh may have intended the film to be a promotional and/or lecture film (see end credits).
