Mortimer, Winslow : Born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1919 and inducted into the Canadian Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2006, Win Mortimer became chief cover artist of most Superman and Batman titles in 1945 after designing wartime posters for the Canadian Ministry of Information. The titles he worked on during his time at National Periodical Products (Later DC comics) introduced many important characters in the Batman and Superman mythos that still endure today. He also worked producing the comic strip Larry Bannon for the Toronto Star from 1961-1968. He returned to the mainstream comic book business in 1968, working on a wide range of titles. His low key style was very different from the bright and colorful styles that were popular, however his influence would be felt throughout the industry as he worked heavily on characterization and development rather than flashy action sequences. His versatility to work with any kind of story line, from humor to romance, from horror to action, also ensured that he left a large portfolio behind. He passed away in 1998.
