Documentary film on the Scott Expedition to the South Pole which gives an account of the expedition and a review of some of the interviews held with members of the expedition, Sir Charles Wright and Sir Raymond Priestly, and with Sir Peter Scott, artist, writer and broadcaster, and son of Captain Robert F. Scott. Included are stills taken by Herbert G. Ponting during the expedition of Captain Scott, Raymond Priestly, Charles Wright, Edward Adrian Wilson, Captain Oates, petty officer Evans, and Herbert G. Ponting himself. Sequences are shown from Ponting's film THE GREAT WHITE SILENCE, a concise recounting of the expedition including: the departure aboard the Terra Nova from New Zealand; domestic scenes of the crew; the ship breaking ice; the Great Ice Barrier; ice formations on the water; the parties unloading Siberian ponies, dogs and stores; Terra Nova leaving for the return home; gigantic icebergs; the departure of the four parties for the South Pole; the Beardmore Glacier; Scott's Polar party pushing on to the South Pole, struggling to pull their sledge in the fierce winds, pitching their tent, the interior of the tent, eating their "pemmican hoosh" (a rich soup), and sleeping in deer skin lined sleeping bags; their great disappointmen in reaching the Pole and finding Roald Amundsen's tent and flag; and the painful journey back where they finally meet their death with a shot of the tent where they were found by the search party. Seen is the cross bearing the names of these heros, set up on "observation hill". Seen also in Roald Amundsen. <68mn>
