Watercolour was orignally mounted on fol. page at all four corners, u.r. and l.r. corners of watercolour have been lifted up., Secondary support is light blue laid paper., Text from journal entry, fol. 5r: Auguste l'Ecureau*....[*note, b.: "Par Ecureuil - the translation of his Indian patronymic probably.] was the name of our intelligent Indian, and Etienne that of his help....", Journal bound in green leather with red/brown leather spine and corners, stamped on spine in gold lettering: SKUNK - SHAWENEGAN, 1847. Fly-leaf paper in maple-leaf pattern in brown ink. Journal folio pages largely light blue wove paper. Dimensions: 30.8 x 24.4 x 1.2 cm., Folios number 50 (not including fly-leaf pages)., A typed transcript of the manuscript portion of the sketchbook is available on the accession file.
