Footage of wildlife, filmed on the Ground Hog River in northern Ontario. An intertitle states that this is in the heart of the fur country. Footage shows a fast-flowing river; rocky terrain with some trees; a black bear cub swimming in the river; a bear climbing onto the shore and disappearing into the bush; bears climbing up and down trees; a tree falling into the water after it is cut down; a man grabbing a bear cub from the fallen tree; the cub struggling and managing to escape from the man; the man catching the cub again; and a bear in a cage in a zoo. The next animal shown is a beaver swimming in the river. It dives under the water. A jokey intertitle says that “perhaps his paddle shaped tail is adapted for radio messages” because he knows when anybody “is about”. There are several other medium shots of the beaver swimming. The next animal shown is a mink. The intertitle says minks are “as nervous as fleas” and “as fast as lightning”. There is a long sequence of a mink crawling on and through a hollow log on the water, and a rock, as it tries to catch a speckled trout. Next is a medium shot of a trapper paddling a canoe. An intertitle states that wolves are not fond on water. This may refer to an animal that is shown in the water. The last animal shown is a chipmunk eating nuts. The intertitle, which spells it “chipmonk”, says that speed is its defence. <7mn 11s>

1. 1927 Catalogue description: "Northern Ontario is still an almost unspoiled game country, but although big game and the smaller fur-bearers are found in abundance it is very rarely that they are prepared to show themselves off as they do in this film for the benefit of the cameramen and the patrons of Province of Ontario Pictures".~2. Crown material over 50 years - copyright expired.~3. According to "The Films of the Ontario Motion Picture Bureau - A Preliminary Catalogue", this film was shot between 1 November 1925 and 23 August 1926, and it was shown at the Canadian National Exhibition on 31 August 1926.
