This appears to be rare American engraving produced by Abner Reed & Co. of East Windsor, Connecticut in 1814. Abner Reed (1771-1866) is considered one of the important early printmakers in New England. The source for the composition is uncertain. It may be after a scene of the battle by Thomas Birch. See drawing in Library of congress, or painting, not located. Also see work by Thomas Sully, and prints after Thomas Sully by Francis Kearny., The condition of this print is poor. It is discoloured from being glued down. There are two holes near u.c. and centre, and a significant paper loss near the l.l. corner which has been painted in on the mount to disguise it. There is evidence of staining and white paint splatters on the right side, plus areas of surface abrasion and small paper remnants stuck to the surface. Glued on the back of the mount (a page from a scrapbook?) is a clipping concerning Woodlawn Cemetery, Westchester County, N.Y. featuring two wood engravings of the cememtery., Preservation copy photographs, both b&w and colour transparency, are held in the Loans and Exhibitions area of Preservation Branch.
