In 1831 Peter Jones (1802-1856), also known in Ojibway as Kahkewaquouaby (meaning Sacred Feathers or Sacred Waving Feathers) travelled to England on behalf of the Methodist Conference to raise funds for Indian missions. While still in England in 1832, his sister, Matilda Jones, who apparently accompanied him, did a miniature of him (now in the Peter Jones collection - Fonds Number F17, at the Victoria University Library, University of Toronto, along with a painting of his wife, Eliza Field.) This print is based on Matilda Jones' portrait and may have been published in the Methodist Magazine (London,) ca. 1832. See R9266-2844, R9266-2846 and R9266-2847 for other copies of this print.
