This film promotes the role of the government in improving the health of school aged children. Intertitles at the beginning of the film state that unhealthiness is not a product of heredity, but a result of carelessness in the home; once children reach school age, however, the state is able to "come to their rescue". Shots show doctors and nurses conducting physical and dental inspections of children. Another strategy for improving the health of young people is fresh air, as is shown in shots of children in open-windowed class rooms in warm and cold weather. Girls are shown at work preparing lunch, which is then enjoyed by students with a healthy appetite. Toronto's "progressive educational policy" is demonstrated in the scenes of "forest schools", established for children with pulmonary weakness. Here, children enjoy outoor recreation and education, as well as picnic meals and noontime naps. The students wash outside, and for exercise they work in the garden. Another government institution with a similar mission is the Hospital for Sick Children. An intertitle extols the clean furnishings of the hospital which are then shown to the viewer. Small children are shown, confined to their beds, and then through a progression of shots, are seen more active and healthy. The film ends with an intertitle reading: "To Parents: The State can do much for your children but it cannot do all. The initial responsibility is yours." <8mn 56s>
