This reproduction of Rex Wood's 1960 oil painting depicts Champlain and his interpreter Etienne Brûlé with Huron warriors on Lake Simcoe, near Orillia, planning an attack on Iroquois, sympathetic with the English and Dutch fur traders (1615)

This work is a colour offset lithograph from a set entitled "Gallery of Canadian History," Portfolio #2, produced by Confederation Life Association. Rex Woods was one of several painters commissioned by Confederation Life to produce works documenting pivotal moments in the development of Canada. A number of these paintings appeared on calendars issued by Confederation Life, as well as being reproduced as offset lithographs for a Centennial project entitled, "Canadian Historical Prints from the Confederation Life Collection."
