Depicted (foreground) is a largely open grassy area, containing a few shrubs and showing a duck hunter (his back to the viewer), holding a shotgun in his right hand. He is standing somewhat back from the edge of a river / inlet looking in the general direction of a beached sailboat, over which a flock of wild ducks are in flight.
