Compilation tracing the evolution of CBC television from the early 50s to the 80s. Alec Barris and Murray Westgate introduce the noteworthy programs.~FRONT PAGE CHALLENGE, a program dealing with finding the right news story, represented by a selected personality related to the story. Three different stories are presented. The overthrow of Cuban president, Fulgensio Batista, by rebel Fidel Castro and his forces. Actor, Errol Flynn, himself in Cuba at the time of the overthrow, comments on Castro's valour and then justifies the rebel's cause. The FRONT PAGE CHALLENGE panel consists of : Gordon Sinclair; Pierre Berton; Toby Robins; Fred Davis; and Scott Young. The murder of an elederly widow by accused, Barbara Graham, John Santo and Emmitt Perkins. Barbara Grahams's treatment by the judicial system and her claims to innocence are examined. Ed Montgomery, journalist with the San Francisco Examiner, explains why he believed in her innocence. Interviews with defence attorney, Al Mathews and news footage interviews with Barbara Graham, herself. The Karluk Artic Expedition, 1924. Tracings of this expedition in the form of four skeletons found on the arctic shores are discussed very shortly and insubstantially with D.N. Labourdé. This program was originally telecast in 1959.~CROSS CANADA HIT PARADE, an entertainment program of song, dance and music in the popular vein with selections from hits on the Canadian hit parade charts. This program was originally telecast in 1958. The program's singers are: Wally Koster, Joyce Hahn and Phyllis Marshall. The Hit Parade Dancers provide dance presentations while Bert Niosi and his orchestra provide the musical background. Guest musicians are the Ahmad Jamal Trio and Los Tres Compadres. Cartoonist is George Feyer.~THE DISCOVERERS, a drama potraying Dr. Banting and Best's discovery of insulin. Starring Murray Westgate and John Drainie. The program was originally telecast in 1956 as parts of the series FIRST PERFORMANCE.~THE DAY JAKE MADE HER RAIN, a drama in which Jake challenges the local sceptics when they take him up on his claim that he can make it rain using a special machine he intends to fabricate. Starring: Murray Westgate as Jake; Rex Hagan as the Kid; Frances Tobias as Ma; Alex McKee as Gatenby; Robert Christie as MacTaggart; Alfred Gallagher as Reverend Cameron; Jonathan White as Johnny; and Frank Perry as Bill. This program was originally telecast in 1961 as part of the series, JAKE AND THE KID.~Murray Westgate then discusses his acting career with Alec Barris.~Program ends with a preview for the next program in the series. Excerpts include: Maurice "Rocket" Richard and family; 55 IN REVUE with Don Harron doing his "Farqhuarson" imitation; and ENCORE : SUN IN MY EYES, a clip from the play about Jewish victims in Nazi-run Poland, written by Jack Kouper, starring Al Waxman. <121mn 16s>
