Docudrama on the life of west coast artist Emily Carr. Part 1, sub-titled GROWING PAINS after her autobiography, deals with Carr's rebellious childhood and years as a young woman; her student days in San Francisco and London; her trips to remote Indian villages; her discovery of the work of the post-Impressionists in Paris; the unhappy years in Victoria during a long period of inactivity; and the encouragement by members of the Group of Seven which enabled her to go forward as an artist. Part 2 is sub-titled LITTLE OLD LADY ON THE EDGE OF NOWHERE, and focuses on the latter part of Emily's life. It includes personal recollections by those who knew her while she was alive: violinist Harry Adaskin; artist Jack Shadbolt; Carol Williams Pearson, who as a child was Emily's protege; and artist Edythe Schleicher. <2h>
