This item was a supplement to the February 1892 issue of "Locomotive Engineering," which was "a practical journal of railway motive power and rolling stock," published in New York.
The J. Ottmann Lithographic Co. was founded in 1886 when Jacob Ottmann, a German immigrant, took over the New York firm of Mayer, Merket, & Ottomann, following the retirement of Vincent Mayer and August Merkel. Renaming the company, J. Ottmann Lithographic Co., Jacob Ottmann expanded the business and moved to 39 E. Houston Street to the Puck Building. Ottmann died in 1890 and his brother, William Ottmann, assumed the presidency of the company.
