Watercolour copied by J.R. Simpson for the Dominion Archives, after a work by J. Halkett. Image depicts a Native man in costume, standing in profile beside a canoe at a waterfront. He holds a bow and spears in his hands, looking towards a ship and glaciers on the right.
Tattannaaeuk (also known as Augustus), the man represented, was an intepreter joined to the Arctic Land Expeditions undertaken by Captains Sir John Franklin, Sir George Back, and Dr. Richardson. The drawing was made from a sketch taken of Augustus at York Fort, Hudson's Bay in 1832, by J. Halkett.

Taped to the verso is a photocopied reproduction of the image from The Beaver, September 1940, p. 32, accompanied by a paragraph of text about Augustus.

Item is of unknown provenance, acquired sometime before the initial cataloguing date of 14/11/21 (written on the verso). May have been acquired together with acc. no.'s R13442-2 and R13442-3, which bear the cataloguing date of 15/11/21.
