Gregory, Hardy, 1815-1884 : H. Gregory was a Hamilton lithographer and publisher who produced a number of prints about Hamilton and region railway disasters in the period from 1856-1860. Born in 1815 in Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire, England, Gregory relocated to Paterson, New Jersey, in the late 1830s. By 1842, he had moved again, settling in Ancaster, outside of Hamilton in Ontario. He worked as a lithographer and photographer in the Hamilton area into the 1860s; by the time the 1870 US Census was taken, he was back in Paterson, NJ, with his wife Mary Elizabeth, and their nine children. He died in Paterson on January 7, 1884.

Removed from: Publication: Published as the frontispiece to the booklet "Full details of the Railway Disaster of the 12th of March, 1857 at the Desjardins Canal, on the line of the Great Western Railway", published by William A. Shepard & Co., Hamilton, and printed at the "Franklin Lightning Press" by John W. Harris & Co.
