The watercolour depicts two children (possible the artist's) walking along a dirt road which has a fence on the left. Beyond the fence is the Gatineau River and in the distance the Gatineau Hills. Cascades is located in Wakefield Co. on the Gatineau River 17 miles from Ottawa and 3-4 miles south of Wakefield., Cascades appears to have been a summer residence from many people from Ottawa (including the artist, F.F. Dixon) in the late 19th and early 20th centuries., May 1975 - when accessioned the watercolour appeared to be slightly discoloured, otherwise it was in good condition. There is a heavy pencil mark just at the top of one of the distant hills which looks to be there more by accident than design., Dixon artist file 705-932, inventory number I-8
