Replica-repetition (similar to "Portrait of John Richardson" by Gerritt Schipper, 1808-1809, prov. gift of Miss Grace Towers, McCord Museum, M969.53.1). This work was brought to the attention of M. Marleau by a researcher in May, 2004, and subsequently seen at the McCord Museum during exhbition., The attribution has been suggested since purchase: record was updated 18.06.04 by M. Marleau after examination of the work, and a revision to the icon record to record the attribution., Support paper is an oval cut-out laid down to secondary support of a brown heavy paper/card., John Richardson, businessman, politician, justice of the peace, office holder, and militia officer, was born ca. 1754 in Portsoy, Scotland, son of John Richardson and a daughter of George Phyn; married on 12 Dec. 1794 Sarah Ann Grant, a niece of fur trader William Grant, with whom they had seven children; and died 18 May 1831 in Montreal.
