See acc. no. 1991-265-228X., John Webber was the official artist for Captain James Cook's Third Voyage (1776-1780) from the South Seas to the West Coast of North America. This image appears in the companion book of plates to the second edition of the Journal by Captains James Cook and James King, A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean...., in three volumes [I and II by Cook, III by King], published in 1785 by William Strahan in New Street, Shoe Lane, and by Thomas Cadell in the Strand, London, England [and printed by H. Hughes]. This image is plate number 52., Depicts English sailors, standing in a rowboat and all aiming muskets at giant walruses., This image is part of a slide show edited and introduced by Douglas E. Schoenherr, Research Officer, National Archives of Canada, together with the National Film Board of Canada, 1977: Captain Cook's Last Voyage 1776-1780, Portraits and Views from the Northwest Coast by John Webber.
