See acc. no. 1991-265-110X., John Webber was the official artist for James Cook's Third Voyage (1776-1780) from the South Seas to the West Coast of North America. This image appears in the book of plates, companion to the second edition of the Journal of Captain Cook and James King, A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean...three volumes (I and II by Cook, III by King), published in 1785 by William Strahan in New Street, Shoe Lane and Thomas Cadell in the Strand, London, England. Printed by H. Hughes. This image is plate number 25., The man is to be sacrificed to the Eatooa, to implore the assistance of the God against Eimeo. On the left, two men are beating drums, in the center the human sacrifice is lying on the ground, tied to a pole, on the right a pig is being sacrificed. Captain Cook and his men stand watching. In the background are numerous skulls.
