The Journal of Cook's Voyages was published in 1777, in two volumes, and includes engravings done by many artists after drawings executed by Hodges on this second journey. The official first edition was published February 1, 1777 by William Strahan in New Street, Shoe Lane and Thomas Cadell in the Strand, London, England. This image appears in Volume One, facing page 75., The family consists of the man, his two wives, young woman, a boy about fourteen years old, and three small children, the youngest of which was at the breast (p.75). Shown in the image is a man and woman standing, and a woman with a small child seated beside them., William Hodges was chosen by the British Admiralty to accompany Captain James Cook on his Second Voyage (1772-1775) as the official artist of this expedition.
