It was led by black civil rights leader Reverend Ralph D. Abernathy. Waves of poor and disinherited Americans of all races march across the nation headed for Washington to demand redress of their grievances by the American government and to get employment or an income for all. In a Washington park, a tent city called Resurrection City is built to accommodate thousands of marchers. Abernathy and fellow clergy preach Martin Luther King Jr.'s principle of non-violence. Fiery discussions are heard among campers, and angry Members of Congress deliver comments to the news media. For 43 days the campaign continues, but in vain. The government refuses to listen and to renew the camp permit, campaign leaders and demonstrators are arrested, and Resurrection City is torn down. <1h>Language:EnglishOriginal number:61-2-2131-8003-CNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
